Phoenix Sun Demo: Wilds That Burn the Cover Off the Reels
Phoenix Sun keeps three of its six rows under a gold cover. Out since December 2016, this Egyptian ways slot from Quickspin starts its five reels on three rows and 243 ways. Each Phoenix Wild in a win burns away 3 random tiles and respins the bigger board, up to 5x6 and 7,776 ways, and five in one round bring 8 free spins. For the current build the demo server gives 96.07% RTP and 1,382.2x as the top simulated win; the 2016 sheet scores volatility 3.65 of 5.
How many Phoenix Wilds does it take to lift the whole cover?
Five, inside one round. The cover holds 15 tiles, three above each reel. Every Phoenix Wild that is part of a win removes 3 at random and triggers a respin, so the reels grow unevenly: our filmed chain passed through 243, 540, 2,250 and 4,500 ways. The chain stops once no Phoenix Wild wins, and the fifth one awards 8 free spins on the open 5x6 grid, 7,776 ways.

The server defaults to €0.50 a spin; our frames and log use €1.00, inside a range of €0.25 to €100.00, and no feature is for sale. Quickspin documents one RTP model: 96.07% on the demo server, a hundredth below the 96.08% on the 2016 sheet.

Which of the two Wilds burns the cover
The red Phoenix Wild substitutes for every symbol and is the one that lifts tiles, while the gold Wild substitutes for everything except the Phoenix Wild. In our log no Phoenix Wild landed outside reels 2, 3 and 4.

Ways pay from the leftmost reel. At €1.00 five pharaohs pay €4.00 a way and five queens €3.00, Anubis, the cat and the scarab €2.40, and the card ranks €0.80.
Three tiles per winning Phoenix, picked at random
Because the tiles go at random, the reels open unevenly, and the WAYS counter multiplies their heights: 4, 6, 4, 3 and 4 rows make 1,152.

Out of 500 spins, 33 started a chain: 14 stopped after one Phoenix Wild, 7 after two, 6 after three, 2 after four, and 4 reached five. Every reel spins again each time: of 70 winning Phoenix Wilds followed by a respin, only 7 had one on the same square next screen.

Spin 173, our best outside the bonus at 22.4x, fell one Phoenix short: two on the first screen and one apiece on the next two respins opened 12 tiles, and the last respin ran on 4,320 ways without a winning Phoenix Wild.
Eight free spins with the phoenix left outside
Once the cover is gone, the phoenix goes too. The help screens keep the Phoenix Wild out of free spins, so only the gold Wild helps on the full board.

Quickspin describes no retrigger, and none of our rounds went past 8 spins.

The round we filmed, media spin 147 at €1.00, passed through 243, 540, 2,250 and 4,500 ways before the fifth Phoenix Wild, and its chain had paid €17.60. The 8 spins took TOTAL WIN to €62.20, the largest step, €34.60 to €54.20, under a BIG WIN banner.
Free spins outpaid their share on the 2016 sheet
On 28 Oct 2026 we spun 500 paid rounds at €1.00 and got 107.2% back. Paying spins made up 24.2%, the worst dry spell lasted 23 spins, and the paying spins had a median of 1.2x.
- 500paid demo spins at €1.00
- 24.2%of them paid something
- 116xbest spin, free spins round included
- 4free spins bonuses triggered
First screens paid €187.80, respin screens €157.20 and free spins €190.80: 37.56%, 31.44% and 38.16% of the stake, against 36.86%, 33.46% and 25.76% on the 2016 sheet. Base game and respins ran close to it; four bonuses in 500 spins pushed the free spins well past.
In the four bonuses the chains paid €11.40 to €31.00 first, and the free spins then added €100.40 on spin 46 but €7.40 on spin 489. The balance closed at €5,035.80.
The oldest grid-grower here, and the mildest
Of the Quickspin games on this site whose grids grow, this one came first. Crystal Prince (November 2020) runs on 6x4, up to 6x8, 4,096 to 262,144 ways. Mayana (October 2017) opens a 3x3 grid out to five reels, 27 to 243 ways, with volatility 4.85 and a top win of 13,254x, against 3.65 and 1,382.2x here.
Its strength is a feature that turns up often: a chain started on about one spin in 15 in our log, and the free spins grow out of the same chain, with no scatter to wait for. Against that stand a low top win and 8 plain free spins: the help screens list no multiplier and no extra spins.
From the respin layout to the release month
Two of the six turn on the gap between the 2016 sheet and today's demo server.
Does a Phoenix Wild stay put for the respin?
Not in our log. Just 7 of the 70 winning Phoenix Wilds that led to a respin saw another Phoenix Wild on the same square, so the whole layout spins again; only the lifted tiles stay off until the round ends.
Can the free spins be retriggered?
Quickspin's page, sheet and help screens describe no retrigger, and the help screen says the Phoenix Wild does not appear in free spins. All four of our logged rounds and the filmed one ran exactly 8 spins.
Why does the demo show 96.07% when the sheet says 96.08%?
The demo server reports 96.07% for the build it runs, and Quickspin's 2016 sheet prints 96.08%, the figure its split of base game, respins and free spins adds up to. The gap is a hundredth of a point, and no second model is listed.
Is the top win 1,382.2x or 1,716x?
Both come from simulations of 1 billion spins: 1,716x on the 2016 sheet, 1,382.2x from the demo server for the current build. Neither is a cap. Our best result was 116x, from the bonus on spin 46.
How rare is a 100x win?
Not published. The 2016 sheet uses older thresholds, 15x, 20x, 40x and 60x, and puts the top one, 60x, at 1 in 404 spins. In our 500 spins one round passed 100x, the bonus of spin 46.
When was Phoenix Sun released?
In December 2016. SlotCatalog, AboutSlots and casinos.com list it that month, and InterGame reported the launch on 14 December 2016. Quickspin's page and sheet print no date, and listings that say 2017 are wrong.
