Betty Bonkers Demo: Fremont Street on Three Reels

Five lines cross a cabinet of nine squares, and the help screens price only three of a kind. At €1.00 three Wilds pay €30.00, three Sevens €15.00, Bars €8.00, Bells €5.00, Cherries €3.00 and Plums €2.00. Wilds stand in for everything except the Bonus scatter.

Betty herself, in a cowgirl hat with two revolvers, stands over the reels beside the menu board. Its tiles show a W for Wilds, an X for the multiplier, stars for free spins, three bars for linked reels, a crown for the jackpot and a crossed-out pair of circles for removal, and the three jackpot tiles hang to the right. Quickspin's web page lists all of these features but never says what starts them or uses the words Betty's Menu; the help screens do both.

What two Bonus signs order from the menu

With 2 Bonus scatters in view the base game lights one tile, and the four feature tiles play as an extra spin. A Wild Spin adds 1-2 random Wilds, a Multiplier Spin applies 3-5x, a Link Spin links 2 adjacent reels, Symbol Removal takes out the 2 lowest symbols, the jackpot pays 10x, 100x or 1,000x, and free spins come as 6, 9 or 12. No tile comes with printed odds.

Our log counts 10 menu orders in 500 spins and not one landing of three Bonus signs. Symbol Removal came up three times and paid our best base spin, 23x on spin 411, once Plums and Lemons were gone. Twice the menu served a Wild Spin (15x at best) and twice the Min jackpot, at 10x each on spins 344 and 430. The Link Spin came once, the Multiplier Spin never.

Those ten orders were worth 261x together, 54% of everything our session returned. Plain line wins made up the other 105 paying spins, and most were small: the median hit was 2x.

The middle row turns into the Bonkers Line once free spins start

Free spins move Betty to a red dress under a gold proscenium and turn the middle row into the Bonkers Line, marked by an X1 arrow on its left. Every win on that row is multiplied by the arrow's value, adds 1 to it (to a maximum of x10), raises the three jackpots and orders a boosted item from the menu. A Free Spin item gives +1 free spin, +1 to the multiplier and one more menu item.

Jackpots grow with the multiplier. In free spins the rules raise their ceilings to 100x, 1,000x and 10,000x, ten times the base values, and on our frames the tiles read x5000, x500 and x50 while the arrow showed X5.

Both our natural rounds came from the menu with 6 spins. Spin 373 ran to 12 free spins, lifted the arrow to x7 and paid a Min jackpot of 50x on the way to 143x, our best spin; its three Multiplier Spins, at x10, x9 and x7, paid nothing because nothing won on them. Spin 426 played 7, got the arrow only to x2 and returned 19x.

Two buys the game page never mentions

Neither Quickspin's web page nor its game sheet says the game has a buy. The demo server still prices two, and the help screens describe them: "By paying 20x bet you will trigger BETTY'S MENU feature", and 300x for Mega Free Spins. A note there warns that the Buy Feature may not be offered in every market. On the buy menu the cheaper card reads "Buy a random item from Betty's menu" and the dearer one "Enter the Mega Free Spins".

What the cheaper card buys is a lottery among the six tiles, free spins included, while the dearer one buys the round three Bonus signs would start. Quickspin publishes no buy RTP. We bought Mega Free Spins once at €1.00, for our frames and video and outside the logged session: the bought spin landed Wilds beside three Bonus signs for €60.00 before the round began.

Starting at 20 spins, the round ended with 25 played; the arrow reached X6, and a jackpot banner came up at X5. With the bought spin it returned €315.00, 315x on a 300x price, just above cost. A single round is no guide to the long run. Our clip leaves out the 23 seconds the client sat still ahead of the opening free spin.

A low on spin 372, then the best round on the next one

At €1.00, our 500-spin log brought back €484.00 of €500.00, 96.8%. 115 spins paid, and the longest losing run lasted 17.

For most of the run the balance leaked. It bottomed at €4,862.00 on spin 372, and spin 373's free spins took it back to €5,004.00; its high of €5,016.00 came on spin 430, the second Min jackpot, and it closed at €4,984.00. With a 100x win set at 1 in 757 spins on the sheet, one such hit in 500 is roughly what those odds suggest.

Quickspin's RTP split does not add up, and we print it as published. On the default card the base game gets 41.63% and free spins 30.27%, 71.90 points of a 96.10% total, which leaves 24.20 points without a label; the 94.19% and 87.15% cards fall short by 23.74 and 22.02. Menu features and jackpots are the obvious candidates for the gap. Quickspin does not say, and in our log the menu orders alone paid more than half the return.

This demo plays at 96.10%. Operators can also take one of the lower models, where the top simulated win drops to 10,407x or 9,326x.

A smaller cabinet than the Strike games, from the same winter as Book of Inferno

No series stands behind Betty Bonkers: Quickspin's portfolio lists no other Betty game, and her nearest relatives here are the fruit machines. Second Strike! (2015) puts cherries and sevens on 5x3 and 10 lines with an outer-wheel marker, volatility 3.92 and a 1,210x top win, about a ninth of Betty's ceiling.

A month later, in February 2023, Quickspin released Book of Inferno with the same volatility rating of 5 and the same three-model set: 96.15%, 94.19% and 87.16% there, against 96.10%, 94.19% and 87.15% here.

Betty suits players who want the three-reel look without a quiet game: the base game hands most of its money to ten or so menu orders per 500 spins, and the free spins only grow if the middle row keeps winning. For a cheap look at the menu there is the 20x card, while the 300x card is a large bet on the Bonkers Line. Anyone after steady line wins will find long gaps.
