Andersen's Snow Queen gave Quickspin the story for Crystal Queen, released in August 2015: 5 reels that start every spin with 3 open rows and 20 lines while three more rows sit frozen above them. Each consecutive cascade, which the rules call a swoop, thaws one of those rows, adds 12 lines and raises the win multiplier, up to 56 lines at x5. What opens the frozen rows in Crystal Queen, and when do they freeze again?
A win. Its symbols vanish, new ones drop in, and that first swoop thaws row four, adds 12 lines and makes further wins pay x2. A second consecutive swoop opens row five at x3, a third opens row six at x5 with all 56 lines live. When a drop brings no new win the chain ends, and the next paid spin is back on three rows at x1. Of our 500 spins, 130 thawed a row and 18 reached the sixth.

Every swoop thaws a row, adds 12 lines and lights the next plate
The first swoop opens row four, a second in a row opens row five, and a third opens row six. Each row brings 12 lines of its own, so the count climbs from 20 to 32, then 44, then 56, and whatever a later drop pays is counted at the plate lit on the post.
The rules start every new round again on three active rows at x1, and all 500 of our logged spins did.

Since every win brings a drop, every paying spin thaws at least one row. The 370 spins that stayed on three rows are exactly the ones that paid nothing, and getting to x5 takes three more wins in a row from fresh symbols.
Top symbols pay modestly here. Five Crystal Queens pay €12.50 at €2.50, 5x the bet, and three 10s, Js or Qs 0.2x, so the big wins come from many small lines at x5.
Spreading Wilds work the left reels, plain Wilds the right
Two Wilds share the reels in the base game. The Spreading Wild lands on reels 1, 2 and 3 and adds 1 to 5 extra Wilds in random squares next to it. The Regular Wild keeps to reels 4 and 5. Both replace every symbol but the Bonus scatter (the Regular Wild cannot replace a Spreading Wild either), and five Wilds pay like five Queens.
A Spreading Wild went off 97 times in our log, across 79 spins, 68 of which paid. A fresh one can fall in after a swoop, which is how a single spin may spread twice. One extra Wild came 60 times, two 21, three 12 and four 4. None reached the full five.
Ten free spins with the ice gone and lines read from both ends
Landing three or more Bonus scatters in the open rows awards 10 free spins on all 6 rows and 56 lines, and wins count from the leftmost reel or from the rightmost one. The Spreading Wild moves to reels 2, 3 and 4, the Regular Wild to reels 1, 2, 4 and 5.
As this trigger shows, a scatter that drops into a thawed row counts. Quickspin's server packs the whole free spins round into its reply to the triggering spin, and we counted from those replies: two rounds in the 500 logged spins, four in the 600 spins of the first media session (frames, no clip) and the filmed one on spin 210 of the second.
The free-spins board is a spring meadow with no ice left on it, and the multiplier post stays at its side.
Nowhere do the rules mention swoops or multipliers in the bonus. The server log has both. Free spins cascade like base spins, the post climbs through x2, x3 and x5, and each new free spin starts again at x1. The best of our 20 free spins, number 5 of the bonus from spin 373, paid €29.30 after reaching x5. Of 163 line wins in the two rounds, 90 were paid right to left.
Both logged rounds ran exactly 10 spins. Quickspin mentions no retrigger, and not one Bonus scatter appeared in our 20 free spins. The filmed round also stopped at 10. Its free spins paid €30.50, and with the €0.75 the trigger spin had won itself, the TOTAL WIN came to €31.25, 12.5x its stake.

What we staked on 3 Nov 2026 came back at 103.2%. 26% of spins paid, the median win was 1.1x, and no losing streak went past 14 spins. The two free spins rounds, on spins 29 and 373, added €51.50 and €44.90 to the line wins of their trigger spins.

Spin 297, a base-game spin that climbed to six rows, paid the most: 52.9x. The 18 six-row spins earned €244.60 between them, 58% of the €419.60 the base game paid in line wins, and €75.50 of that came at x5 itself.
The balance bottomed at €4,973.10 after spin 293, topped out at €5,091.20 after spin 391 and finished the session on €5,016.00. Quickspin rates the volatility 2.55 of 5, and by the sheet 100x or better turns up 1 in 4,276 spins. None of ours came close. An RTP split is printed there too, but its four parts sum to 66.56%, far short of the 96.16% total, so we leave it out.
Three Crystal titles, and no Quickspin text that joins them
Quickspin has three winter games with Crystal in the name, and not one of their game pages, sheets or rules screens refers to the others. Crystal Queen came first. Crystal Prince (November 2020) has a new folk-tale hero and a grid of 6x4, up to 6x8, where each win adds a row. Its top simulated win is 11,631x against 906.2x here, it scores 4 of 5 for volatility, and it sells its free spins for 60x the bet.
Crystal Queen's Coins (November 2024) brings the Queen in only as a legend told about its frozen land. It plays on a fixed 5x3 grid with a coin-collect respin bonus and rates 5 of 5. Its numbers match those of an earlier Quickspin game, Catrina's Coins, and none of this one's.
Swooping Reels are older than the Queen. Quickspin's 2012 press release for Big Bad Wolf called it the studio's first video slot with them, and what Crystal Queen added is the ice, so each swoop also opens lines and raises the multiplier. On Quickspin's own scale this is a gentle game, and the ceiling is low to match at 906.2x on the demo server (the sheet prints 829x). There is no buy, and free spins came twice in our 500 spins. It holds up for a long session at a small stake. Anyone chasing four-figure wins should look at the Prince.

How many lines are live on a spin that wins nothing?
Only 20, on the bottom three rows. The other rows, 12 lines apiece, open only during a chain of swoops, and the next round starts back on three rows at x1. That was all 370 of our 500 spins ever saw.
On which reels did the Bonus scatters land?
Only on reels 2, 3 and 4 in our 500 base spins, so a trigger needed one on each of those three. The rules themselves just say three or more in the playable area. 56 of our spins ended with two scatters in view and no bonus.
Does the x5 multiplier work during the free spins?
Yes, by our log, though the rules are silent on it. A free spin cascades like a base spin, and a chain of swoops lights x2, x3 and x5 before the next free spin resets to x1. Each of our two rounds got to x5 once, and the best free spin paid €29.30 at a €1.00 stake.
Why do some listings give 829x and this page 906.2x?
Both are Quickspin figures from simulations of one billion spins. The game sheet prints 829x as the largest win it observed, while the demo build running today reports 906.2x. Neither is described as a cap, and our best spin of 52.9x was far from either.
